Challenging Behaviour including Safe Holding Techniques
Course overview
This course has been designed for staff working in the Dementia units and EMI homes. Challenging behaviour courses have always been a theory based subject but doesn’t help when a client becomes violent or needs immediate treatment. This course does! Feedback from Managers and staff states that this course ticks all the boxes.
Safe holding is a last resort procedure. Staff will be taught how to safely hold a client within a two staff team for the purpose of;
- Personal hygiene/care and toileting
- Violent out bursts towards others
- Treatment

By the end of the course staff will be able to:
- Demonstrate how to use safe holding techniques safely
- Review underpinning knowledge of the assault cycle
- Review knowledge of personal safety techniques including de-escalation
- Explore the law and the use of reasonable force
